Scott Bikes in West LA

Swiss Engineering, Fitted Before You Ride It

Scott has spent forty years asking the same question, which is how much can come off a bike before it stops working. The answer keeps getting better, and the result is a range that climbs like almost nothing else on the Westside. We stock Scott road, gravel, and mountain bikes at the shop on Santa Monica Blvd, and every one of them gets fitted and built here before it goes out the door.

Scott Bikes and the Swiss Habit of Counting Grams

Scott started in 1958 in Idaho making aluminum ski poles. Light first, strong second, everything else after. The company moved to Switzerland decades ago and never lost the habit.

  • A racing record worth checking: Scott clip-on aero bars were on Greg LeMond’s bike for the 1989 Tour time trial he won by eight seconds. Nino Schurter has since won more cross country world titles than anyone, all on a Scott Spark.
  • The Addict is still a benchmark: one of the lightest production road frames ever built, and the current Addict RC holds that reputation. If your rides are decided on climbs, it belongs in the conversation.
  • TwinLoc earns its keep: one bar lever, three settings, fork and shock moving together. Open for the descent, traction for the fire road, locked for the tarmac.
  • The Spark hides its shock inside the frame: protected from grit, and it pedals more like a hardtail than the travel figure suggests.

Scott spans a first trail bike up to a World Cup race frame. Dirt on a smaller budget? Try a Scott hardtail. Mixed surfaces? The gravel range. Either way, start on the fit bench.

Scott Fitting and Service in West LA

Here is the part most shops skip. Scott builds heavily integrated bikes, which is great for weight and terrible for anyone guessing at setup. That is the whole reason to buy one here rather than from a box.

    • Professional Bike Fitting (fit before frame): a Scott that fits climbs better and descends safer. We fit every bike we sell. Book a fitting
    • Fork Service: we service most suspension forks in house to keep small-bump sensitivity and full travel. Fork service
    • Rear Shock Rebuild: Fox and Rock Shox rear shocks rebuilt in house, the work chain stores turn away. Rear shock service
    • Custom MTB Wheels: a tubeless wheelset built to your weight transforms how a Scott holds a line. Custom wheels
    • Tune Up and Drivetrain: dusty SoCal trails are hard on drivetrains. A tune keeps shifting crisp. Bike tune up
    • Assembly: ordered online or back from a trip in a box? We build it trail-ready and torqued. Assembly service

Explore Scott Mountain Bikes

Scott builds across three very different riders. Tell us where you ride and we will point you at the right one.

Scott for the Cross Country Racer

Spark and Scale. Light, efficient, and set up to be pedalled hard for hours. This is the platform Schurter races, and the trickle down is real.

Scott for the Trail Rider

Genius and Ransom. More travel, slacker angles, built for people whose favourite part of the ride is pointing downhill.

Scott for the Road and Gravel Rider

Addict, Foil, Speedster, and Addict Gravel. Climbing frames, aero frames, and a gravel bike that is genuinely quick on tarmac.

Which Scott Fits You

Four honest starting points. Bring your riding and your budget and we will narrow it down properly on the floor.

  • Buying your first real mountain bike: a Scale hardtail or an entry Spark. You get Scott geometry and a frame worth upgrading later, without paying for suspension you are not yet using.
  • Racing cross country or just riding dirt fast: the Spark RC. Integrated shock, TwinLoc, and the lightest full suspension platform Scott makes. This is the one that rewards a proper fit.
  • Descending harder than you climb: Genius for trail, Ransom for enduro. More travel, stronger wheels, and a build we will spec around how hard you actually ride rather than the brochure.
  • Road riding decided on the climbs: the Addict. If your rides are San Vicente repeats and canyon days, weight matters more than aero. If you are chasing flat speed or riding the group ride at the front, the Foil is the better answer.

Where to Ride Your Scott in West LA

Scott is the rare brand where the road and the dirt options both matter, and the Westside happens to have both within half an hour of the shop.

  • Sullivan Canyon and Westridge Fire Road: the closest legal dirt to Santa Monica Blvd. A steady fire road climb, dusty in summer, and the natural proving ground for a new Spark or Scale.
  • Mandeville Canyon: a long, steady road climb with almost no traffic. This is where you find out whether your Addict is geared and fitted correctly.
  • Malibu Creek and the Bulldog climb: the big local fire road loop. Brutal on the way up, fast and loose on the way down, and the ride that will tell you if your suspension setup is right.
  • Cheeseboro Canyon: flowing, forgiving, and a good first proper trail ride if you are new to dirt. Worth the drive out to Agoura Hills.
  • Latigo and Piuma: the Malibu road climbs. Long enough that every gram Scott saved starts to register.

Trail access in the Santa Monica Mountains varies by parcel. Fire roads are generally open to bikes, but a lot of singletrack is hiker and equestrian only, so check the trailhead signage before you commit. More Westside options are in our West LA bike routes guide.

Caring for Your Scott

Scott builds light, and light parts want a bit more attention than heavy ones. None of this is difficult, it just needs to actually happen.

Keep the suspension on schedule

Lowers service every fifty hours, full rebuild annually. On the Spark the shock is tucked inside the frame, so it will not look dirty even when it is. Book it by the calendar, not by the look of it.

Do not guess the carbon torque

Integrated cockpits and seatposts have real torque numbers for a reason. A torque wrench is cheaper than a bar, and much cheaper than a hospital visit.

Keep the TwinLoc cables clean

If the lever starts feeling vague or the lockout stops holding, it is almost always cable and housing rather than the shock. Quick fix on the bench.

Check the linkage bearings after wet rides

Grit in the pivots is the single most common way a good full suspension frame gets old before its time. A wash and a bearing check after muddy months pays for itself.

Why Buy Your Scott From Bike Improve

You are not just buying a frame, you are buying whoever sets it up. Nir handles the fit, the build, the wheels, and the suspension himself, on one bench, on Santa Monica Blvd. No sales pressure, no online checkout, and someone who will still know your bike in two years.

Everything you need to know about choosing, buying, and living with a Scott.

Is Bike Improve an authorized Scott dealer?

At our shop on Santa Monica Blvd in West LA, a few minutes from Santa Monica, Brentwood, and Century City. We keep bikes on the floor to test ride rather than sending you to a catalogue.

Roughly $1,000 for an entry alloy road or hardtail model, into the mid five figures for a top Addict RC or Spark RC build. Most riders land somewhere in the middle. Call and we will talk about what your budget actually gets.

The Spark if you climb, race, or ride long cross country days. The Genius if descending is the reason you ride. The Spark is lighter and more efficient, the Genius is more capable when the trail gets rough.

Scott’s sizing runs fairly true, but the frame size is the smallest part of the answer. Reach, saddle height, and cockpit length all come out of a fit, and on an integrated Scott cockpit those are hard to change later. Book a fit before you order.
